Sliding Spice Rack

A sliding spice rack created to store all my spices all in one easy to see layer.

As someone who likes to cook, I ran into the issue of having to dig through many spices in a cabinet. Everything was on one shelf in one cabinet so I could only see a handful of containers with the others buried deep. Having to pull out half the spices to find the one I needed was a common problem that I got tired of quickly.

To alleviate this issue, I design and created a custom solution in the form of a sliding spice rack which allowed me to store all my spices vertically in an otherwise unused space between my refrigerator and wall. Everything is visible at one time and most of the spices are organized alphabetically.

The rack is created entirely out of softwood lumber using pocket holes and rides on a pair of casters. Although there isn’t a mechanism to constrain the rack’s movement, it moves fairly smoothly when sliding against the fridge and wall with furniture pads. Self control is used to prevent pulling the rack entirely out of place.

The spice rack tucks away into the otherwise unused space between the refrigerator and the wall.
